One of our customers randomly receives error 404 messages, when launching a Domino database in a browser. The URL is always the same, yet only occasionally this error is returned. This problem is solved (temporarily) when the database is also opened in the Notes client. After restarting the HTTP Server, the problem returns.
Running the exact same database on another server, did not result in the same behaviour. The difference between these servers is the OS; the problem only occurs on a Unix based server. It turned out to be a problem with capitalization!
Best practice, knowing this, could be to only use lowercases creating databases and URL’s.
